Spirit Squad donates money back to junior high

For the second year in a row the Alvarado Junior High Spirit Squad won its division at the Johnson County Old Settler’s parade and for the second year in a row the team decided to donate the $100 it received.

The team decided to donate the money to the junior high for principal Melodye Brooks to use as a resource for supporting the district’s Wildly Important Goal (WIG) of improving each student’s reading by one and a half reading levels.

“It says a lot about the character of the girls and boys we have in our spirit squad that they would donate money they won back to the school,” Brooks said. “I can’t think of a better use for the money than to buy books to give away as rewards for students who read a certain number of books.”
